All The Reasons Why Your Hair Can’t “Grow” Anymore
Read the article to know why your hair grows slowly or even stops growing!
Who does not want to have long, shiny hair and not damaged? But the bad news is that many people’s hair stops growing and begins to thin out after a certain amount of time.
In addition to common causes such as lifestyle, unhealthy eating habits, poor environmental conditions, and unhealthy hair care habits, there are many other factors that contribute to limiting hair growth, making them impossible to “grow” anymore.
How much hair grows in a year?
Each person’s hair is programmed to stop growing after reaching a specific length. It then undergoes catagen, telogen and exogen stages before regrowth. The hair of a normal person grows at a rate of 6 inches (about 15 cm) per year and the growth period lasts from 2 to 7 years. However, everyone has different hair growth cycles due to many factors.
Why does hair stop growing at a certain stage?
Your hair follicles undergo a growth cycle consisting of 4 stages: the Anagen phase (development phase); the Catagen phase (transition period); the Telogen phase (resting phase), and the Exogenous stage (Hair loss phase). Each hair follicle undergoing this cycle determines the length and volume of a person’s hair. If this cycle is interrupted for any reason, then the development of the cycle will be affected.
The most common reasons for your hair to stop growing
Genetic
Do you know the length, color, and volume of your hair are dominated by your genes? Yes, genetics plays an important role in influencing hair growth. If you have long, healthy hair, thank you for your genes. If not, you need to make extra efforts to prevent hair loss and enhance its growth.
Stress level
The cause of hair growth has been medically proven that any kind of physical or psychological stress is detrimental to hair growth. Stress causes a condition called Telogen effluvium that causes your hair to enter the telogen (resting) phase early. As a result, your hair is restricted to about 30% of growth.
Although this condition does not require medical intervention because it does not last more than 6 months, it affects the hair growth cycle and causes hair loss.
Hair is broken
Normally, a person’s hair will grow at a rate of about 6 inches (about 15 cm) per year. If you observe that your hair is still not growing any longer after a long period of time, it may have fallen out. Hair loss can be caused by inadequate or excessive care.
Excessive hair care and too much styling make your hair lose moisture and elasticity. From there, the hair becomes much more brittle and drier.
Split ends
People with dry hair often have split ends. If your hair does not get enough nutrients to balance the moisture, the ends of the hair will begin to split and lead to hair breakage.
You cannot turn the split ends back to normal by any means that can only cut it off only. Therefore, please take good care of your hair to avoid splitting and breaking!
Styling hair regularly
The chemical treatments and styling products used in the hairdressing process have a great impact on its health and development. At the same time, the accumulation of oil and scalp products can prevent hair follicles from growing.
Complex hairstyles that need to be groomed daily will cause your hair to be pulled often, leading to weakness and breakage. In addition, the chemicals used on your hair can cause scalp disease that leads to thinning hair and permanent hair growth.
Hair loss
Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disease. In which the immune system damages the cells in your hair follicles and causes hair to fall out in patches. Scientists believe that the condition may be genetic and people diagnosed with conditions like asthma, Down syndrome, anemia and thyroid problems are at a higher risk.
However, proper medication and optical therapy can treat this condition.
Not exercising and having an unhealthy diet
A healthy diet is important for hair growth. Like your body, your hair needs vitamins, minerals and nutrients to grow. In fact, doctors recommend that people take some multivitamins alongside a healthy diet to promote hair growth.
A deficiency of iron, protein, zinc, vitamin A or biotin can weaken your hair, causing it to get damaged and break. However, if you take enough vitamins, minerals, and nutrients to nourish your hair follicles and increase strength, you can prevent hair loss and promote healthy hair growth.
In addition, keeping a relaxed mind also does wonders for your hair.
Dry scalp
Dry scalp and brittle hair are signs of unhealthy hair. Lack of moisture or moisture imbalance on the scalp will make your hair dry, leading to hair loss and stop growing. The prolonged dry scalp will lead to the growth of fungi that cause patchy hair loss. Therefore, you need to moisturize your hair regularly to promote healthy growth of curls.
Thyroid problem
An abnormality in thyroid hormone production can also have a negative impact on your hair. Both hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism can affect hair growth because they affect your body’s function and metabolism.
Poor hair care regimen
An improper hair care regimen can have a big negative impact on your hair growth. Daily shampooing, using non-specified hair care products and accessories can easily damage the hair, so you need to change this habit if you want thick, long and healthy hair.
