Not everyone has the same face shapes, some have round faces, some have long faces, or some have square masculine faces. Choosing a hairstyle that suits your face is like finding a suitable outfit. And like your clothes, haircuts aren’t one-size-fits-you’re your handsomeness will be increased many times if you can opt for a style that “fits” your face shape. However, changing a hairstyle is not as easy and often as you are changing an outfit, it will stay with you for weeks or months until it grows long enough for you to get another haircut, and you may have to stick with an awful appearance once you choose for a terrible style. That’s why – before you go and meet the barber – you should know which style is best suited to your face shape. “What hairstyle suits me quiz?” Keep reading to answer the question yourself!

What face shape are you?

Before choosing a suitable haircut for your face shape, first, you need to specify what shape of your face is. But how can you actually do that? It’s simple. Prepare for yourself a flexible tape measure. Then, do the following measurements, remember to record each step as you go.

Forehead: Measure across your face, starting from the top of one eyebrow to the other.

Cheekbones: Measure across your cheekbones by measuring the distance between the two pointiest points in the lower outer corner of each eye.

Jawline: Measure from the tip of your chin to the section below your ear, at the corner of your jawbone. Your jawline measurement will be twice as that number.

Face Length: This will be measured from the center of the hairline to the top of the chin.

Once you’ve done these measurements, mark which is the largest of the four, and then compare it to the seven main profiles to determine what your face shape is.

Oval: The measurement of the forehead is greater than the jawline, and face length is greater than the width of the cheekbones. Jaws will tend to be round rather than sharp.

Rectangle: Face length is the greatest measurement. Forehead, cheekbones, and jawline are similar in size.

Triangular: Jawline measures greater than cheekbones, and cheekbones measure greater than the forehead.

Round: Cheekbones have a similar measurement with the face’s length. Both of them are larger than the jawline and forehead, which are also a similar measurement. The jaw is soft and much less defined.

Heart: pointed-chin, the forehead is measured greater than the jawline and cheekbones.

Square: Jaws are sharp rather than rounded while all measurements are fairly similar.

Diamond: pointed-chin as it has the smallest measurement, then, in ascending order: forehead, cheekbones, face length.

How to choose a suitable haircut for your face shape

Haircuts for oval faces

Symmetrical and well-proportioned – oval face shape does pretty much any hairstyle justice, so – you lucky boy – the choice is very much yours. For an oval face, the trick here is to wear your hair off the forehead so that it can create some angles and volume on top. Therefore, a classic short back and sides which are slightly longer on the top, with a side-swept parting will be the best option for you.

Haircuts for square face shape

This is considered the ideal face shape for men as it can show off all the masculine features. Square face shape is characterized by a razor-sharp jawline, even proportions, and an overall chiseled appearance. Like the oval, it works well for most styles and is versatile enough to go with both extremely short and longer hairstyles – from buzz cuts to quiffs. The optimal option for square-faced men should be the classic, neat haircuts with close fades, side partings, and short layers.

Haircuts for rectangle faces

This is the longest among all face shapes, therefore it requires a suitable hairstyle to ensure the face doesn’t appear looking even longer than it is. That’s why you should avoid getting the sides cut too shortly while keeping the length on the top, as this would only accentuate the face’s length and make the whole appearance look weird. Instead, you should try a style, which lets the hair fall to the sides and/or across the forehead in order to add width as well as ensure that your face doesn’t appear narrower than it actually is.

Haircuts for round faces

Because a round face does not have the same natural and masculine angular lines as a square face, you need to choose a hairstyle that can create the illusion of structure. A hairstyle with height on the top while being taken tight at the sides such as a flat top or a pompadour is the suitable choice to add structure.

Haircuts for diamond/ heart-shaped faces

These two types of face shapes have in common the narrow in the chin and forehead, wide in the cheeks, so you should also be careful when choosing the hairstyle that suits your face. You should opt for a hairstyle that can add width at the chin and brow area, fringes seem the good option.
