Done applying a weave to your hair is just the initial success, your new hair will not always maintain its silkiness and beautifulness as the first buy if you don’t take care of it properly. Therefore, in the spirit of helping and sharing, this article will guide you to wash your weave hair extensions before installing as well as to store them after a period of use.
How to wash weave hair extensions before installing?
Washing your new hair extensions before installing not only helps you to make sure that the hair is completely clean as they don’t have any lice or dirt, etc., but also provides the hair with a natural state. Besides using both shampoo and conditioner to wash hair, some people may prefer to co-wash the hair (only use conditioner to wash hair and cut down the use of shampoo) to supplement them with moisture, softness, and shine. Do these following steps to wash your weaves before sewing it on your strands.

Step 5
Note: You must be careful when drying out the hair and should not hang it on hocks to let it dry. If your weave has a straight texture then it may not be affected much, but for curly or wavy texture, if you hang it up, the redundant water and the gravitation will pull down the curls/waves, causing hair to lose its original texture.
Step 6
Again, check back your weave whether it’s completely dry or not. Then comb the hair gently from the ends up to the top to smooth it. And finally, your weave hair extension is ready to be used.
How to restore your old weave hair extensions?
Your weave hair extensions, after a period of use, will be dull and lose its original silkiness and softness and will get tangled more easily. Getting a new one is a good idea but rather than spending a large amount of money on buying another weave (human hair extensions are expensive though), you can totally revive them using the following tips and I’m sure that you will be amazed by all the fantastic results.
Note: After performing any of these tricks, you’ll need to re-wash your weave. The washing steps are similar to when you wash hair the first time before wearing it.
[1] Soak your weave in apple cider vinegar (ACV)
After detangling (step 1), soak the hair in ACV diluted water for about 15-30 minutes before continuing to wash the hair. This method will help to get rid of any buildup or dirt on the hair and cleanse the wefts. Buildup occurs when leftover styling products such as gels and lotions remain in our weaves. The ACV mixture may have a particular smell but the scent will go away once you rinse it out.
[2] Boil the weave
This method may sound weird but boiling your old weave hair indeed can bring it from drab to fab in a matter of minutes. Boiling the hair for about 2-3 minutes before normally washing it will bring magical results.
